Raymond's Blog Post

The trip to Aachen was an educational adventure. We went on a walking tour around the old city armed with a map and informational pamphlet.  Herr Spence narrated our journey with  his  deep, soothing,  baritone voice to the group in an  attempt to capture the essence of Charlemagne.  We started our tour with the delightful scent of sulfur at some roman bath houses along the way we also stopped at some impressive  statues, a cafe which served the traditional ginger bread known as printen and an intricate fountain.

Note Herr Spence's sign :)

Near the end of our tour we entered the Aachener Dom, a cathedral built the ages with a mix of Gothic, Romanesque, and Carolingian architecture.

The cathedral was, of course, extravagant, and it was a pleasant way to end our tour.  After the tour we were blessed with some free time to shop, wander around, or visit the Lindt Chocolate Factory.  Through out the day we came across a great deal of information both about the reign of Charlemagne and the colorful history of Aachen,  and had a great deal of fun in the process.
