Oh, The Places I Went! by Hallie
Yesterday was my first full day with the Wusche family. In the morning I ate breakfast with them. The food was very similar to that of the Jugendherberge, we ate rolls with jam or nutella and soft boiled eggs. Shortly after breakfast, my host dad took me to see a huge coal mine. Along the way we saw Mohnblume, which are Poppies in English. We then headed home and picked up Jana and Frau Wusche. We then drove to Köln and met Anthony and the Ohmes family. Our group then wandered through the Köln cathedral and I couldn't help but gawk at the sky-high ceiling and elaborate stained glass. It was simply gorgeous. Together, we walked to the Schokolade Museum. There we learned about the life of a cocoa bean, the ancient civilizations that used to harvest them, and the actual process of making chocolate. It was overall a great day and I am so excited about the rest of my stay here.
